Re-making a zine that I sketched out during a (pseudo-)solo wander around the MoMA back in 2011. I parted from my sister and her boyfriend to try to find the Lee Krasner paintings because at the time I was really feeling the love for Lee. Somewhat ironically, however, at the time all of her works were on loan to the AGO. I went kinda bonkers trying to find them but it turned out okay because I got all this fun/weird junk together into a sketchbook and have finally started re-creating it. I’m going to print a short run of them I think.

I’ve been writing poems every day on a private tumblr shared with Mikaela. I’m on day 5/365. I have the urge to share them all, because the internet, but I also don’t want to share them at all, because feelings. The internet is no place for feelings!

Anyway, this one is just about a dream, so it’s not too deep to share~

Last night
I had a dream we moved
to Saskatchewan

a small town
on the outskirts
of the province’s
most similar
city

no one
made remarks about
how flat land
goes for miles

or joked about
agoraphobia

but the loneliness
stretched like the plains

ate away the harvest
before winter

and turned
my gold hair
a dull grey-brown

the colour of barley

I saw Owen Pallett on Saturday…

…and this verse from “Lewis Takes Off His Shirt,” though I’ve heard it a hundred times before, really hit me hard with my-own-life-validity:

"I am overrated," said the sculptress to the sea.
"I’ve been praised for all the ways the marble leaves the man,
And I was wrong to try and free him.”
And as for me, I am a vector, I am muscle, I am bone.
The sun upon my shoulders and the horse between my legs,
This is all I know.

I was commissioned to illustrate these Boston Terrier pups – Mika on the left and Nugget on the right – for Amanda Morari. Fun project! Amanda is an excellent photographer and has taken some photos of me in the past to use on my portfolio sites and professional profiles so it was great to be able to pay it back! Visit her site here.

Going for walks soothes all of your existential worries! Your search for transcendence is as fleeting as the sidewalk passing under you! I have a really great boyfriend!
